ST. GEORGE CAR CRASH & INJURY SETTLEMENTS FOR JULY 2026

After a serious accident, many people assume that compensation only comes from the at-fault driver’s insurance policy. In reality, that isn’t always the case.

Depending on the circumstances, a personal injury claim may involve multiple insurance policies, underinsured motorist (UIM) coverage, or even compensation from other sources. Understanding where financial recovery can come from is one of the reasons it’s important to fully investigate every injury claim.

To help explain how these cases work in the real world, attorney Anthony McMullin recently shared the biggest and smallest injury settlements our firm resolved during July 2026. This month’s cases ranged from a tragic wrong-way collision on Southern Parkway to a dog bite involving a summer sales representative, demonstrating how different circumstances can lead to very different paths toward recovery.

Largest Settlement of July 2026: $700,000 Wrong-Way Crash on Southern Parkway

The largest settlement our firm resolved during July involved one of the most heartbreaking crashes we’ve handled.

A father and his adult son were traveling westbound on Southern Parkway near Desert Color in St. George when tragedy struck. According to the facts of the case, a 91-year-old driver mistakenly entered Southern Parkway by driving the wrong way onto an off-ramp before colliding head-on with the family’s vehicle.

The crash was devastating.

The at-fault driver tragically lost his life in the collision. The father in the other vehicle also passed away from his injuries.

Our firm represented the surviving son.

Serious Injuries and a Long Recovery

Although he survived the collision, the son suffered life-changing injuries.

He sustained fractures in both arms, a neck fracture, and required multiple surgeries, including operations on both arms as well as his neck. His recovery was lengthy and difficult, keeping him out of work for nearly a year.

In addition to the physical pain and financial burden of medical treatment, he was also coping with the unimaginable loss of his father.

Cases like this are reminders that the effects of a serious crash extend far beyond hospital bills. Families are often left facing emotional trauma, lost income, rehabilitation, and an uncertain future.

How the $700,000 Settlement Was Reached

One aspect of this case that illustrates the complexity of personal injury law is where the settlement funds came from.

Many people assume compensation only comes from the insurance policy carried by the at-fault driver. In reality, multiple sources of recovery may be available depending on the circumstances.

In this case, compensation came from several different sources:

  • $100,000 from the at-fault driver’s automobile liability insurance policy.
  • $300,000 paid by the at-fault driver’s estate because the driver had significant personal assets.
  • $50,000 in underinsured motorist (UIM) coverage available through the surviving son’s own insurance policy.
  • $250,000 in underinsured motorist (UIM) coverage carried on his father’s vehicle.

Together, these sources resulted in a total recovery of $700,000.

This case highlights why it’s so important to fully investigate every possible source of insurance coverage after a serious accident. Many injured people are unaware that their own insurance policies—or policies covering the vehicle they were riding in—may provide additional compensation beyond the at-fault driver’s liability limits.

Smallest Settlement of July 2026: $20,000 Dog Bite Claim

The smallest settlement resolved during July involved a very different type of injury.

A young man working summer sales was going door-to-door selling pest control services when he approached a home and knocked on the front door.

When the homeowner answered, their Dalmatian unexpectedly ran outside and bit the salesman on the calf.

Fortunately, the injuries healed well. After receiving medical treatment to properly clean the wound, prevent infection, and receive a tetanus shot, he was able to return to work the very next day.

Although his physical recovery was relatively quick, the incident still left him with a permanent scar.

For someone whose job requires knocking on hundreds of strangers’ doors, an unexpected dog attack can also create understandable anxiety that continues long after the physical wounds have healed.

The claim ultimately resolved for $20,000, with much of the compensation reflecting pain and suffering and the permanent scar rather than extensive medical expenses.

What Determines the Value of a Personal Injury Claim?

Many people assume that the value of an injury claim depends only on how severe an accident appears or how much medical treatment someone receives.

While those factors certainly matter, insurance companies evaluate many different aspects of every claim.

Some of the most important factors include:

  • The severity of the injuries
  • Medical expenses and future treatment needs
  • Lost wages and reduced earning capacity
  • Permanent scarring or disability
  • Pain and suffering
  • Emotional trauma
  • Available insurance coverage
  • Liability and fault
  • Every available source of compensation

As these two July cases demonstrate, two injuries can have dramatically different settlement values depending on the specific facts involved.

Every Injury Case Is Unique

The July settlements are a perfect example of why no two personal injury claims should ever be compared.

One involved a catastrophic wrong-way collision that resulted in the loss of life, multiple surgeries, and compensation from several insurance policies and the at-fault driver’s estate.

The other involved a dog bite that healed relatively quickly but still resulted in compensation for permanent scarring and the emotional effects of the attack.

Although the outcomes were very different, both clients deserved experienced legal guidance and an advocate who understood how to identify every available source of recovery.
